Benin Visa Policy
African citizens: visa-free entry for 90 days
Official Benin guidance states that citizens of the other 53 African countries may enter and circulate in Benin without a visa for up to three months, or 90 days. This non-reciprocal policy includes African countries beyond ECOWAS. Eligibility is based on the traveler’s passport nationality, not simply residence in Africa.
Travelers who are not African citizens
Other foreign visitors should check the official eVisa platform for the available electronic visa route and any reciprocal exemption applying to their passport. Do not use an old nationality count as a substitute for the current official application check.
Match the authorization to the visit
Tourism, business, transit, employment, study and residence are not interchangeable purposes. Use the route and supporting evidence appropriate to the actual visit. A short-stay authorization does not itself grant permission to work or reside in Benin.
Visa-free does not remove border checks
Carry a valid passport, accommodation or host details, onward plans and health documentation required for the route. Border authorities retain the final admission decision. Travelers using unusual documents or combining several purposes should obtain guidance before departure.
