Official African visa websites and government immigration portals

Use this directory to identify the public authority or application route associated with each African country before you upload a passport scan, enter personal information or pay a visa fee.

Verification methodology

How to recognise a safer visa application route

Start with the responsible authority, not the first search result. A legitimate route should identify who receives the application, explain the relevant visa category and provide a traceable submission or payment record.

1. Match the authority

Look for the national immigration service, foreign ministry, consular service or an officially appointed processing platform.

2. Read the exact domain

Check spelling, redirects and the final payment hostname. Lookalike domains often add or remove a single character.

3. Confirm your route

A genuine portal may still be wrong for your nationality, purpose, passport type or planned border crossing.

4. Save evidence

Keep receipts, application references, confirmation emails and copies of uploaded documents.

Before you apply

Check the visa category, not only the portal

Tourist, business, transit, student, work and family-visit routes often use different evidence and may be processed by different offices. A portal can be genuine while the category selected is still unsuitable.

  • Confirm passport validity and blank-page rules.
  • Check whether the visa is accepted at your intended airport or land border.
  • Verify whether biometrics, an invitation or sponsor documents are required.
  • Review government fees only after identifying the correct category.

Frequently asked questions

Official visa website questions

Does a .gov domain always mean a visa website is official?

Government domains are a strong indicator, but not every country uses the same domain format and some governments appoint external processors. Confirm the operator through the responsible ministry or immigration authority.

Why might an official portal have a commercial-looking domain?

Some states use contractors or dedicated platforms. The key test is whether the responsible authority clearly identifies or links to that platform.

Can AfricaTourVisa guarantee that a visa will be approved?

No. Only the responsible government or immigration authority can decide an application.

What should I do if two websites both claim to be official?

Pause before paying. Compare the domains against the responsible ministry, embassy or immigration authority and contact the authority directly when the relationship is unclear.

How often should visa portal links be reviewed?

They should be checked regularly and again immediately before use because governments can replace portals, change contractors or suspend application routes.
