Visa Requirements for Botswana: practical guidance, routes, seasonality, and planning support with visa, hotel, parks, and transport CTAs.

Botswana Visa Requirements

First determine whether your passport requires a visa

Botswana has visa-exempt and visa-required nationalities. Check the current government position for the passport used for travel; residence in an exempt country does not automatically exempt a different passport. Visa-required tourists can apply through the official eVisa service, an immigration office or a Botswana embassy or consulate.

Tourism visa supporting documents

The government lists certified passport pages showing at least six months’ validity, two recent color passport photographs, a covering letter explaining the visit, flight and accommodation information, a trip itinerary, evidence of intent to depart and, where applicable, permission to return to the country of residence. Online documents must follow the portal’s current upload instructions.

Visa validity and permitted stay are different

An approval allows travel for the stated purpose and period, but immigration controls admission and the authorized stay at entry. Botswana’s general visitor framework refers to a 90-day period before an extension is required; this should not be presented as a guarantee that every traveler receives 90 days or that every nationality is visa-exempt.

Do not use a tourist route for work

Paid work, providing services, study and residence require the appropriate visa or permit. Business meetings and employment are not interchangeable. Confirm the category before travel if the itinerary includes professional activity.
