Dry season: May to October
Wildlife often concentrates around water and vegetation thins, improving visibility. June and July mornings can be cold. September and October can be extremely hot before the rains.
Okavango flood timing
The Delta flood originates in the Angolan highlands and often reaches central areas during Botswana’s dry season. Water levels differ by year and location, so ask the chosen camp which activities are normally possible in the intended month.
Green season: roughly November to April
Rain transforms the landscape, with migrant birds, young animals and dramatic skies. Some roads become difficult and storms can disrupt light-aircraft operations. Rates and visitor numbers may be lower.
Makgadikgadi and migration
The zebra movement and pan conditions follow rainfall rather than a fixed calendar. Work with current local reports when the migration is the main reason for travel.
