Africa Visa & eVisa Coverage Map

A visa is not a continent-wide pass. Use this map to see what a selected visa or authorization is intended to cover, which neighboring countries sit outside that permission, and where a regional arrangement may make a multi-country route simpler.

AfricaTourVisa is a travel and visa-assistance service. We provide route information, map visa coverage and can help prepare an application. We do not issue visas or decide admission. Government immigration authorities control eligibility, approval and border entry.

The highlighted map is a schematic visa-coverage tool, not a legal boundary map. Green shows covered destinations; amber shows neighboring countries that require a separate entry check unless another rule applies.

Three different meanings of “visa coverage”

Travelers often assume a valid visa lets them move around a region. In most cases it does not. These are three separate legal situations.

One-country visa or eVisa

The normal case. A visa issued by one country allows entry only to that country and only for the approved purpose, dates and entry count. Crossing a land border into a neighbor starts a new immigration check.

Regional tourist visa

A single permission may cover named countries under a specific agreement. The East African Tourist Visa covers Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda only; KAZA covers Zambia and Zimbabwe under its published rules.

Passport-based free movement

This is not a visa. Regional communities may give their own citizens mobility rights. ECOWAS free movement is based on citizenship and valid travel documents, not on buying one “West Africa visa.”

Plan a neighboring-country side trip before you apply

If your itinerary includes two or more countries, build the route first. That avoids buying a single-entry visa that becomes unusable after an unplanned border crossing.

Check entry count, not just validity

A visa can still be within its printed validity period but no longer usable after you exit if it was issued for one entry. Travelers planning a side trip should verify whether they need double-entry, multiple-entry or a regional visa.

Transit can become entry

Collecting baggage, changing airports or leaving an international transit area can trigger the transit country’s immigration rules. A visa for your final destination does not automatically cover the transit country.

Tourism permission does not cover work

Even when a tourist visa covers several countries, employment, technical work, long-term study or residence may require separate national permission.

Border opening and visa validity are different

A valid visa does not guarantee that your chosen land crossing is operating. Check border status, permitted entry points and current travel notices before an overland side trip.

Frequently asked questions

Does one African eVisa let me visit neighboring countries?

Usually no. An eVisa normally belongs to the country that issued it. You need to check the neighbor’s visa, exemption or authorization rules separately unless a documented regional arrangement applies.

Can I leave a country and return on the same visa?

Only if the visa or permission allows another entry. A single-entry visa is generally consumed when you use it to enter and then leave.

What is the East African Tourist Visa?

It is a joint tourist visa for Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda. Uganda Immigration states that it is for tourism, valid for 90 days, and the issuing country should be the first point of entry.

Does KAZA cover all five KAZA conservation countries?

No. Zambia Immigration states that the UniVisa currently covers Zambia and Zimbabwe, with Botswana day trips through Kazungula under the published conditions. It does not currently function as a five-country visa.

Can AfricaTourVisa issue the visa shown on the map?

No. AfricaTourVisa provides travel and visa assistance, route guidance and application preparation. The relevant government immigration authority issues or refuses visas and decides admission at the border.
