Nigeria visa invitation letter for business and private visits
A useful invitation letter does more than confirm that someone expects you in Nigeria. It must match the correct visa category, identify the host, explain the purpose and dates of travel, and be supported by the right company or residence documents.
Start with the visa category
When an invitation letter is normally needed
The Nigeria Immigration Service publishes category-specific requirements. Business applications under F4A and F4B require an invitation letter from the inviting Nigerian company together with its Corporate Affairs Commission certificate. Private visiting applications under F6A require a letter from a family member or friend in Nigeria accepting immigration responsibility, supported by the host's Nigerian passport or residence permit.
Other categories may use different supporting letters. A conference invitation, hospital letter, religious-body letter or temporary-work approval should not be presented as a general business invitation unless it matches the actual travel purpose.

How to organize a clear invitation letter

- Host introduction.Explain who the host is, the company or residence status, and the relationship to the applicant.

The letter, application form, flight booking and accommodation show different travel periods.
Generic wording
The letter does not explain the meeting, event, relationship or reason the applicant must travel to Nigeria.
Unsupported multiple-entry request
The letter asks for multiple entries without showing a repeated-travel need or checking category eligibility.
Missing responsibility statement
A private-host letter omits wording required for the applicable visiting category.

A hotel reservation proves accommodation but does not normally replace the genuine company or private host invitation required for business or social-visit categories.
Does the invitation letter need to be notarized?
Official category pages do not impose one universal notarization rule for every invitation. Follow the specific embassy, portal or visa-class instructions applicable to the applicant.
Should the letter request multiple entries?
Only where the selected category permits it and the travel need is genuine. Nigeria's F4B guidance states that the company invitation should request multiple entries.
How quickly can an invitation letter be produced?
A genuine host controls the timing. Avoid guaranteed “official letter in 24 hours” claims when identity, company authority and supporting records still need to be verified.
Does a correct letter guarantee approval?
No. The Nigeria Immigration Service decides the application after reviewing all documents and the applicant's eligibility.
